Life threatening emergencies

In a life threatening emergency dial 999. This could be sudden severe chest pain, loss of consciousness, loss of power in a limb or severe bleeding.

Minor injuries

If you have an injury which might need stitching / glue or involves a broken bone, you should attend the local minor injuries unit at Wansbeck General Hospital or North Tyneside General Hospital.

Healthcare advice when your GP surgery is closed

If you require urgent medical advice or assistance which is not an emergency, call 111 the 24 hour urgent care healthcare advice service. Calls to 111 from mobiles and landlines are free. Lines are open 24/7 every day.

You can call 111 if you need advice outside surgery opening hours, when you think you need to go to the Emergency Department at hospital or another urgent care service.

There are also NHS Walk-in Centres who deal with minor illnesses and injuries.
