Valens Medical Partnership at Newbiggin by the Sea
Our Newbiggin surgery, originally part of Wellway Medical Group, is now part of the single practice known as Valens Medical Partnership, which also merged Brockwell and Lintonville Medical Groups.
Our Newbiggin surgery has a team of highly qualified general practitioners (male and female), practice nurses, healthcare assistants supported by dedicated administrative staff. The surgery is committed to providing a high quality service to its patients and this is assisted by NHS Community medical services provided by health visitors, midwives, community nurses, dieticians, podiatrists, physiotherapists and psychiatric nurses working alongside the Newbiggin surgery team.
The surgery provides a wide range of services including clinics, minor surgery and health education which are available to all patients. This surgery trains junior doctors who are fully qualified and have already done training in hospitals. You can expect them to provide a full range of GP services. If they are not certain about what to do, they will ask more senior colleagues for advice.
The GP Partners value their members of staff who are encouraged to develop skills and share ideas, thoughts and concerns which ultimately enhances the care provided to our patients.

NHS England require that the net earnings of doctors engaged in the practice is publicised, and the required disclosure is shown below. However it should be noted that the prescribed method for calculating earnings is potentially misleading because it takes no account of how much time doctors spend working in the practice, and should not be used to form any judgement about GP earnings, nor to make any comparison with any other practice.
All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (e.g. average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice.
The average pay for GPs working in this practice in the last full financial year was £60,973 before Tax and National insurance. This is for four full time GPs and eleven part time GPs who worked in the practice for more than six months.
The practice supports the NHS policy of Zero Tolerance which defines violence as:
“Any incident where staff are abused, threatened or assaulted in circumstances related to their work, involving an explicit or implicit challenge to their safety, well-being or health”.
Violence and aggression towards a person may also be defined as:
“A physical contact with another person which may or may not result in pain or injury. The contact is uninvited and is an attempt to cause harm, injury or to intimidate. Non-physical aggression includes the use of language which causes offence or threatens the safety of a member of staff”.
The practice takes a serious view of any incidents of physical and verbal abuse against its employees and will support them, if assaulted, threatened or harassed, so long as the employee is correctly carrying out his or her duties.
