Self help for non-emergency ailments
There are many good sources of advice on the internet. Below are a few of our recommendations:
The Little Orange Book: Click here to view or download a booklet of expert advice on helping babies and young children when they are poorly.
Pharmacy First
Your local pharmacist will be able to give you free health advice for the treatment of minor ailments e.g. hayfever and painkillers for those exempt from prescription charges. You do not need an appointment. Click here to find your nearest pharmacy.
Accident & emergency
Whatever the time of day, if you or someone else experiences severe chest pain, symptoms of a stroke, loss of blood or suspected broken bones, go to your nearest emergency department or call 999. Accident and emergency departments are open 24 hours a day 365 days a year and can assess serious injuries and provide emergency assistance.
